Snapback privacy policy
Last updated:
Snapback is a tray app for Windows that puts your windows back where they were after sleep, unlock, a dock change or a monitor replug.
What Snapback collects
Nothing. Snapback does not collect, send or share any personal information.
- It makes no network connections, except the Microsoft Store's own license check.
- It has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
What Snapback saves on your PC
All of these files are in the app's own data folder in your Windows user profile. Uninstalling the app removes them.
- Settings: automatic restore on or off, timings, and whether the first-start window was shown.
- Window layouts (
layouts.json), one set per monitor setup. For each window: its position, size, minimized/maximized state, program file name, app ID (for Store apps), window class and window title, plus an ID of your monitor setup (monitor model codes and arrangement). The title is used only to tell windows of the same program apart.- For an open window, only its current title is kept.
- A closed window is kept for up to 7 days, so it can go back to its spot after a restart. Then it is removed.
- At most 200 windows are kept per monitor setup.
- Save this layout keeps a separate copy for the monitor setup until you save again.
- A backup of the last good layouts file (
layouts.json.bak). If the layouts file is ever damaged, Snapback renames it (layouts.bad-<date>.json) and uses the backup. These copies hold the same kind of data as the layouts file. - A log (
log.txt) of what the app did, for example "restore: 3 moved". It has program file names and monitor model codes, not window titles. It is kept under 1 MB. - Start with Windows, only if you turn it on.
Diagnostics
If you click Diagnostics… in the tray menu and then Create zip, the app writes a zip file in its own data folder on your PC and opens File Explorer on it. The zip has system info, the log, your settings and your saved layouts. Window titles are left out unless you tick "Include window titles". Nothing is sent: you decide whether to share the zip.
Children
Snapback does not collect data from anyone, including children.
