Clipsmith
Turn a long video into short, captioned vertical clips for Shorts, Reels and TikTok, on your own PC. Nothing is uploaded and you do not need an account.
Get it in the Microsoft StoreYou recorded a 90-minute podcast. Finding ten good clips means scrubbing the timeline for hours, or uploading the file to a site that charges credits by the hour.
Clipsmith listens to the whole video and lists the best 20-90 second moments, best first. Each clip says why it was picked: it opens with a question, it starts and ends on a full sentence, it is about what you asked for.
What it does
- Look for a topic. Type keywords (for example: pricing, hiring) and the clips that talk about them go to the top.
- Fix a clip by editing its words. Select words in the transcript and press Delete. They are cut from the video. Ctrl+Z puts them back.
- Move the edges. Start a clip one sentence earlier or end it one sentence later. Double-click a misheard word to fix its spelling in the captions.
- Framing. The 9:16 frame follows the main face. Drag the slider to frame it yourself, or click "Back to auto".
- Captions. Captions are burned into the video. The karaoke style lights one word at a time, and there are 4 more styles. Set the color, size and timing. Each clip also gets an .srt caption file.
Free and Pro
Clipsmith is free to download. Clipsmith Pro is an add-on you buy once in the Microsoft Store. It is not a subscription.

Renaming or copying a video does not reset the 3 free exports. The free exports use the same video encoder as Pro, so you know export works on your PC before you buy.
Good to know
- English speech only in version 1.0. The app is in English too.
- Videos up to 2 hours. Clipsmith finds clips from speech, so the video needs someone talking.
- Works offline. The speech model is part of the app, so nothing downloads on first start.
- Export needs an H.264 video encoder on your PC: NVIDIA, Intel, AMD, or the one built into Windows.

System requirements
- Windows 10 version 1809 or later, or Windows 11

- An H.264 encoder: a recent NVIDIA, Intel or AMD graphics driver, or the encoder built into Windows
- Disk space for the app (the download is about 280 MB because the speech model is included), plus room for your clips
Questions
- Does Clipsmith upload my video?
- No. Speech recognition, face framing and export all run on your PC. Clipsmith makes no network connections. The only network traffic is the Microsoft Store's own license check and, if you buy Pro, the Store purchase.
- Can it clip a video in Spanish or another language?
- Not in version 1.0. The speech model understands English only. Try the free version on your own video before you buy Pro.
- Export failed. What now?
- Export needs an H.264 encoder. Update your graphics driver and try again. If it still fails, make a diagnostics zip (About > Diagnostics) and send it to support.
- Why did it find no clips?
- Clipsmith picks clips from what people say. It needs at least 20 seconds of speech. A video with no talking gives no clips.
- Is Pro a subscription?
- No. Pro is a one-time purchase in the Microsoft Store. It stays on your Microsoft account.
