Clipsmith privacy policy

Clipsmith is a video clipper for Windows. It turns a long video into short vertical clips with captions.

What Clipsmith collects

Nothing. Clipsmith does not collect, send or share any personal information.

• Your videos, transcripts and clips never leave your PC. All speech recognition, face framing and encoding runs on your PC.
• No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking.
• Network use: none. The speech model and the face model are part of the app. Clipsmith makes no network connections. The only network traffic is the Microsoft Store's own license check and, if you buy Clipsmith Pro, the Store purchase.

What Clipsmith saves on your PC

• Settings (caption style, export folder, number of free exports used per video) in the app's own data folder. To count free exports, Clipsmith keeps a short fingerprint of each video (a hash of its first megabyte and its length), not the file name.
• The speech model and the face model, copied from the app's install folder into the app's data folder on first start.
• Transcript cache and your edits: the words of videos you analyzed, the clips found and your edits to them, so a re-run is fast and a video you open again comes back as you left it. In the app's data folder.
• Preview files in your temp folder, deleted when the app closes.
• Exported clips (MP4 and SRT caption files) in the folder you choose (default: Videos\Clipsmith).

These files never leave your PC. Uninstalling the app removes its data folder (not your exported clips).

Diagnostics

If you click About > Diagnostics, the app writes a zip file in its own data folder on your PC and opens File Explorer on it. The zip has system info, the app's log and the video-encoder check. It does not contain your videos, transcripts or video file names. Nothing is sent: you decide whether to share the zip with us.

Children

Clipsmith does not collect data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new date.
